Visalia Adult School Nurse Assistant Training

Visalia Adult School offers a Nurse Assistant Training Program designed to prepare students for a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and to pass the state exam.

The program is priced at an estimated total cost of $1,310, encompassing both theoretical instruction and hands-on clinical experience. Entry into the program is determined through a lottery system, which provides equal opportunities for all applicants.

Program Schedule and Format

Students can choose between a Day Cohort and an Evening Cohort to suit their schedules. The Day Cohort operates Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with clinical sessions from 6:45 AM to 1:45 PM. The Evening Cohort conducts classes on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, with clinical practice on Saturdays. Both options have specific start and end dates, and the scheduling may be subject to changes.

Certification Process and Legal Considerations

To achieve CNA certification, students must successfully pass the California State competency examination and receive a criminal record clearance from the CA Department of Public Health. It is crucial for prospective students to understand that past criminal convictions might affect their ability to obtain certification, even after completing the program and passing the examination.

Admission Requirements

The program sets forth several admission prerequisites:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; foreign diplomas are also accepted

Candidates must achieve a CTE Placement reading score of 235 or higher

Completion of CASAS Pre and Post Assessment is mandatory

A valid social security card or ITIN, along with a state photo ID (driver’s license, ID card, or US passport) is needed

Prospective students must pre-register online, attend a designated lottery session with all necessary documentation, and meet the $600 registration fee payment requirement through credit/debit card or a program voucher

Course Costs and Additional Requirements

In addition to the $600 registration fee, students will incur various expenses including fees for physical exams, drug screenings, required textbooks, and uniforms, totaling about $310, excluding the $120 certification exam fee. Students are required to purchase specific items such as a vinyl gait belt, scrubs, a stethoscope, a manual blood pressure cuff, black leather shoes, and a watch with a second hand.

Visalia Adult School’s Nurse Assistant Training Program provides thorough training for aspiring CNAs, blending rigorous classroom learning with essential clinical experiences, while also enforcing stringent entry and ongoing requirements to ensure students are well-prepared and eligible for state certification.
